Synopsis: American Sarah Thompson falls in love with English nobleman William Whitfield, and the pair settle in France to start a family. When the Second World War disrupts all of Europe, the wealthy family buys the jewels of many people to help them raise money to survive the conflict. But the postwar era creates new problems for the Whitfields, as the many gems and family heirlooms they now hold cause problems for them in the community.
