Synopsis: Anna Muller, a U.S. citizen studying at the American Colony School in Germany, befriends both a teacher, "Nicky" Nichols, and Karl Bruner, a student at a neighboring school who joins the Hitler Youth. Years after they graduate, Karl returns as a Nazi officer and sends Anna -- now a teacher herself -- to a labor camp. While Karl praises the changes in Anna, Nicky works in secret to help her escape from the Nazis.
