Synopsis: Black-comic BBC adaptation of the offbeat fantasy trilogy by Mervyn Peake, about the machinations of a bitter kitchen boy named Steerpike (Rhys-Myers) who is bent on controlling the disheveled, titular kingdom. Lush visuals, sardonic tone, and rampant sarcam abound in this political satire, though lack of magic may disappoint genre fans unfamiliar with the novels.
