Synopsis: Following the capitulation of the French to Germany's Nazi invaders, a unit of defiant French soldiers become German prisoners of war. Except for the Nazi-sympathizing wine-seller Andre Duval, the prisoners are overtly hostile to their captors, which leads to their increasingly sadistic treatment by camp commander Maj. Bruhl and his subordinates. Despite this brutality, the prisoners band together and attempt to escape their confinement.
