Synopsis: Sumptuous historical drama about a fun-loving 17th-century English physician whose yen for the good life leads him to doctoring the King's dog and marrying his uppity mistress. But when he ends up falling for the latter, the King banishes him, after which he finds real love with an Irish mental patient and real passion for medicine with the onset of the plague.
