General:

Synopsis: Nominated for an Academy Award, this adventure, set during the settling of the North American colonies, centers on Gilbert and Lana Martin (Henry Fonda and Claudette Colbert), a young couple homesteading in New York's Mohawk Valley. Driven, by repeated Indian attacks, into a nearby fort, they watch helplessly as their farm is laid to waste. But when a well-to-do spinster hires Gilbert to work as a field hand and gives the Martins a place to stay, the couple begins again. And although life is never easy - with Gilbert's involvement in battles with Indian tribes and British soldiers, challenges from the weather and more - the two realize that there is something magical about life in the Mohawk Valley.
