Synopsis: In 1950s Oklahoma, steam engine worker George Adams faces a problem: his job is becoming unnecessary with the rise of the diesel engine. In light of this crisis, Adams takes on another job as a night watchman, which leads to torment from the local community. He also struggles to hold together his marriage with wife Norma. While trying to make sense of his life, Adams juggles other stressful situations, including a minor affair and a brush with bank robbers.
