Synopsis: Determined to educate the town's illiterate children, schoolmarm L.C. Moffat opens a school in a dismal Welsh coal-mining community. Battling both the ignorance of the villagers and the contrary local squire, Miss Moffat becomes increasingly discouraged until she sees extraordinary potential in one of her students, Morgan Evans. When Morgan fathers an illegitimate child, the teacher fears her pupil's chance at a college education may be destroyed.
