Synopsis: Early in 1944, Allied forces bombed the 6th-century abbey overlooking the Italian town of Cassino. Using rarely seen archive footage, this episode of "Battlefield" encompasses the four battles that ensued. Historians discuss the controversial bombing, which wasn't the German lookout post the Allies believed it to be, and the massive German response that resulted in one of the bloodiest conflicts of World War II.
