Synopsis: The adaptation of Vita Sackville-West's novel stars Wendy Hiller as Lady Slane, an elderly woman whose husband dies. Her children orchestrate how the rest of her life will be lived, but she takes control of her own future much to their consternation. She develops new friends, and considers the possibility of a new love. All the while she suffers through the complaints of her children who feel she is spending their inheritance.
