Synopsis: After San Francisco bookie Hal Towers refuses to pay syndicate protection money, his long-time friend, racketeer Dan Gannin, finds him dead. Investigating the murder is another close friend, Detective Barney Runson, but Dan refuses to provide Runson with information. Investigating on his own, Dan is close to discovering the head of the syndicate -- only to learn his girlfriend, Robbie, may somehow be involved with the organization.
