Cradle Will Rock, The
Actor Tim Robbins directs this dramatization of Orson Welles’ attempts to stage a musical about a steel industry strike under the auspices of the Federal Theatre Program. When the government shuts the play down before it even opens, the cast and crew walk to an empty theatre and stage an impromptu performance there. This inspiring drama is based upon a series of true events which took place during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
