Synopsis: This highly acclaimed and through-provoking documentary provides a rare and illumination exploration of the creative process through incisive portraits of five seminal figures from a significant chapter in contemporary American folk art. Variously describes as outsider, self-taught or visionary, the artist profiled in the film, all from the American South, produce remarkable works of art that are worlds away from the traditions of pottery, basketry and quilting. Living on the margins of society, these artist give voice to an American individuality in such uniquely personal styles of creative expression, they challenge the distinctions between " fine" and "folk" art.
