Rocky Road To Dublin
The last film screened at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival before it was halted following protests by Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut, the landmark documentary Rocky Road To Dublin is a stunning evocation, "Beautiful, energetic, and uncompromising" (New York Magazine) portrait of 1960s Ireland.
Featuring the inspired cinematography of legendary French New Wave pioneer Raoul Coutard, and an incisive, literate voice-over commentary by director Peter Lennon, and Irish journalist then living in Paris, Rocky Road To Dublin captures an Ireland on the cusp of enormous social changes but still mired in a regressive, semi-theocratic mentality.
