Synopsis: D. H. Lawrence's work portray the brutal side of industrialization. Lawrence's women are put upon "vulgar, low minded brutes" who stagger home drunk from the pit, lay about them with their fists, and occasionally bring the odd trollop into the house. In The Widowing Of Mrs. Holroyd, Lizzie Holroyd (Wanamaker) and her boorish husband Charles (Firth) scream their lives away until Lizzie falls in love with another man and wishes her husband dead - a wish that comes horribly true.
