Setting Sun
Set in the 1930s during the opium wars between China and Japan, Lian (Diane Lane), the leader of a rebel movement, falls in love with Kaya (Masaya Kato), a Japanese soldier. When, against his will, Kaya is drawn into the lucrative opium trade under the advisement of the mysterious American emissary for Japan (Donald Sutherland), he comes into collision with the leader of the fascist mafia in Shanghai (Yuen Biao). Lian must gather her guerrilla forces and intervene before his battle for control of the opium market poisons both the ideals that first brought him to Manchuria and their love for one another.
